By supporting Ballot Issue 2A for the City of Durango,
YOU are investing in safety, parks, and community.
Secure our quality of life without a new tax or a tax increase
In 2005 the citizens of Durango voted to add one-half cent to its sales tax until 2026. The benefits realized from this foresighted measure have been significant.
• For every $100 spent on taxable purchases, the 50 cents sales tax paid by residents and visitors has enhanced recreation opportunities for Durangoans across all generations and income levels.
• Ballot issue 2A on the April 2025 election asks us to continue this tax without a tax increase.
• Shouldn’t we assure future generations the quality of life we have enjoyed?
Improve public safety with a police facility designed for the future
Anyone who has toured the current police station recognizes its limitations that potentially compromise the safety of our community.
• Our police deserve a facility that will enable them to continue to meet today’s demanding law enforcement standards.
• A reauthorized tax could mean state-of-the-art police infrastructure right next door to City Hall.
• Functional workspace will improve security for handling detainees and promote recruitment and retention of our police force.
Streamline city government with a new city hall
Retaining our one-half cent tax allows us to renovate, outfit and maintain a city hall that offers most city operations under one roof.
• Making city services conveniently accessible encourages public participation in decisions that impact us now and in the future.
• Accessible public restrooms adjacent to Buckley Park, on-site parking and functional meeting rooms with good audio invites citizen involvement.
• Upgrading the former 9R School Administration Building (the old Durango High School) makes fiscal sense. It maintains one of Durango’s iconic architectural buildings for continued public use. Preserving the historic building façade is good stewardship.
Keep parks and trails accessible to all
Our award-winning parks, open space and trails represent one of our community’s signature achievements.
• Retaining the one-half cent tax helps us maintain and improve this asset.
• Without creating either a new tax or a tax increase, we can build a community park in Three Springs, develop Durango Mesa Park, enhance the Animas River, and extend the Animas River Trail and Smart 160 Trail in addition to other projects.
• Let’s finish the vision in the adopted Parks, Open Space, Trails and Recreation Master Plan and assure future generations our recreation amenities will remain world-class.
This reauthorized tax is about people; it is about you; it is about building assets that bring a shared community together.
